Three important strategies have proven effective in reducing smoking – raising the price of tobacco, decreasing the availability of tobacco and limiting the prominence of tobacco advertising at retail outlets.

Community speaks up about responsible tobacco retailing in the City of Buffalo

More than a dozen presenters appeared before the common council legislative committee on June 29, 2010 to air thier views on the Responsible Tobacco Retailing Act.  Developed by council member Demone Smith as a way to further his campaign to rid the city of blight and illegal practices from some retailers it proposes new license to sell tobacco.  The license would ask that retailers adopt a number of measures that reduce tobacco ads and promote awareness of the dangers to tobacco use.  To learn more click here.
