Current Initiative: Smoke-Free Outdoor Air

Smoke-free spaces are becoming common. New York State took a big leap forward in 2003 when the Clean Indoor Air Act was adopted - eliminating smoking in any public indoor facility. Since then, hundreds of private and public organizations and businesses have created smoke-free campuses, entrances and public facilities such as parks, recreational areas and beaches.

Amherst approves ban on smoking on town property

Amherst Town Board has adopted a resolution that would ban smoking on town property. The designation forbids all smoking within town buildings and within 25 feet of the town’s public entranceways, windows and ventilation areas around the building. The resolution was co- sponsored by Council Member Guy Marlette and Supervisor Barry Weinstein.
