Smoke-Free Parks
Smoke-free parks are an important way of eliminating children’s exposure to secondhand smoke in recreational settings. A smoke free park, beach or recreation area also gives children another place where they don’t see people smoking. They also avoid the danger of coming in contact with toxic cigarette waste. To accomplish this, new policies, resolutions, laws or ordinances need to be adopted. Policy initiatives are key strategies in influencing community norms and effect ways to limit exposure to the dangers of secondhand smoke. Our coalition is working with municipalities to adopt a smoke free park policy. Once a policy is in place we assist with signage and information campaigns.
